Very few songs give me the goosebumps like the opening notes of ‘Grease’ (the other one that immediately comes to mind is the opening fanfare in Star Wars). Maybe it’s because it brings back memories of seeing those movies in the theater as a child or a specific combination of notes that triggers it or something else, I don’t know. But, what I do know is that the ASMR is real! Regardless, this 1978 record is full of songs that will bring a smile to the faces of older listeners and, hopefully, do the same for the younger ones listening for the first time. Other than the title track already discussed, others worth checking out include, ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ (every time I hear this I immediately picture Sandy [Olivia Newton-John] on that porch), ‘You’re the One That I Want,’ ‘Beauty School Dropout’ (Frankie Avalon’s delivery is as smooth as butter!) and ‘We Go Together.’ Lastly, if you haven’t already done so, you must see the movie in order to put these songs in context - you won’t regret it.
