This 2015 debut record from the desert blues band Songhoy Blues is being featured because the Malian group is about to release their third album towards the end of October. So, in preparation for that release, I thought it would be nice to cover “Music in Exile.” The members of the band consider themselves, first and foremost, a guitar band. This is evident in pretty much every song on the record. Though none of the songs are sung in English (you’ll need to check out ‘Worry’ off the upcoming album for that), the mixture of riffs and rhythms will suck you in and keep you listening. Try out ‘Soubour,’ ‘Irganda’ and ‘Nick.’
