The year is 2000 and Norah Jones, daughter of Indian classical music maestro Ravi Shankar, wouldn’t release her smash debut album for another year and a half. So, what was she doing? Well, she was recording this album with bluesman Peter Malick and his band, though the record wasn’t actually released until 2003, *after* Jones was catapulted to superstardom by her own album, Come Away with Me, and its 8 Grammy Awards. It goes without saying that New York City presents Jones in a less refined, less polished light. However, she definitely has the blues and country in her, as evidenced by ‘All Your Love’ and ‘Things You Don’t Have to Do,’ respectively.
